Feel free to leave a Deposit for a newborn puppy, and be assured that we will nurture and care for this puppy until its time to go to your home.

"You have an Upcoming Litter, what are the benefits of leaving a deposit now?":

When we announce an Upcoming Litter, you will have the opportunity to leave a deposit (PayPal, Cash ok). You are welcome to make an appointment and visit us, we will introduce you to the Sire and Dam. The deposit will put you on a VIP Wait List, giving you priority to Pick of the Litter once whelped (born). ---No one else chooses/buys a puppy until our VIPs have made their selection.

In the event that you are undecided and rather wait to meet the litter, you can also be added to a Wait List, a Birth Announcement email will be sent to you to notify you of the New Arrival. However, VIPs will choose their puppies first. If there are no VIPs ahead of you, it will be noted in the email.

"I left a Deposit, what can I expect now?":

We are thrilled that you have decided to offer your home to a precious new life. We look forward to a long lasting relationship, after all a pet is a lifetime companion.

Here are some of the benefits:

You will know about the progress of your puppy and celebrate with us every milestone he/she reaches. We will send you weekly pictures of your puppy with captions so your are up-to-date on his/her growth. (From the time he/she opened his eyes for the frist time to his first steps and cute little attempts to jump over loops and chase his siblings...)

If you have chosen a name for him/her, we will make sure to have it updated on his medical records. Otherwise, we name the puppies. Every puppy has a Puppy Package that includes a Surprise Basket, we try to customize the Basket to your liking- favorite colors, scents, etc- adding a personal touch to every little bundle of joy.

Also, we will try to help you prepare to the Big Day (when you pickup your puppy), sending you emails tips for grooming, perhaps Doggy Good Citizenship classes, or reminder of supplies you will need. The "Puppy Checklist" emails is optional.

We will try our very best to make you feel welcome everytime you visit your puppy and greet you with a smile. Our goal is to make this adoption experience a happy and pleasant process.

"Do you ship your puppies?":

Up to this date, we have never shipped a puppy. These are very tiny and fragile little dogs, their weight at 2months will range between 1.1 lbs to 2.0 lbs, and the stress of "Airline Cargo" (handling) could be a recipe for disaster.

We will, however, offer "Doggy Delivery". We personally hand-deliver in a Beautiful Basket to your door step; Nicely groomed and eagered to be with his new family. This "Doggy Delivery" has been successful in Birthday surprises, for a little Christmas joy, Graduations, or simply to pamper the stressed commuters.

Limiting our number of litters and providing them with individual care, has allowed us to offer this personal touch. The "Doggy delivery" is not included in the price of the puppy. Delivery fees apply and vary by location. $50 minimum within 50mile radius; $1/mile thereafter , $250 max. Please call for estimates. We are available to travel to ensure a safe delivery.

So the other day after bathing and grooming our dogs and puppies, clipping nails and doing puppy-facials (oh yes, there is such thing) it was time for a little pampering of our own... Chocolate Facials, Yummy!

Chocolate-FacialsOur dogs of course are jumping like crazy because they can whif the yummyness and sweet scents. Which brings me to the perfect opportunity to tell you that Chocolate is toxic to Dogs, and to our feline friends; in large quantities it will cause a Coma; in smaller portions it will cause gastrointestinal problems and diarrhea. So keep your sweet stash away from your furry friends. (And if you are wondering.. Nop, no puppy licked our face :))

$$$Price Deals: PET HOSPITAL in Orange has great deals in grooming. They have Blueberry Facials for dogs/puppies and it does wonders for a bright white coat.

"Why is your address not listed?":

We are always happy to welcome guests. However for the safety of our children and well being of our little furr balls, puppy visitations are by appointment only.

There has been an increased number of "Puppy Burglaries" across the news, from pet shop burglaries to home robberies at gun-point; so we decided as a family to be more cautios. We appreciate your understanding.

I am allergic to dogs.  Is the Maltese breed for me?:

Yes, Maltese are hypoallergenic.  The Maltese coat resembles human hair and people normally allergic to other breeds of dogs and cats can usually get along just fine with a Maltese.  Maltese do not shed seasonally like other dogs but because of their long coats they do require grooming more often.

What supplies will I need when I take my Maltese home?:

You should have water and food dishes(preferably stainless steel or ceramic), toys, a leash and collar, a crate and bedding.

When should I first take my puppy to the vet?:

A complete checkup should be scheduled within the first 72 hours of your purchase

How to start house training my Maltese?:

Begin with a schedule. Take your Maltese outside before bed and first thing in the morning, also after naps and meals. Every time you take your puppy to the “potty area”, tell him a word to associate with the action (keep it short and simple) i.e. Say “Potty” - this will teach your puppy a basic command word. You should praise your puppy after they “go potty”. Always take them to the same area, later on your puppy will only relief himself in the same section rather than all over your backyard. Besides it is easier for cleanup.

How often should I be feeding my new Maltese?:

Puppies should be fed 3 times a day until three months of age.  They should then be fed 2 times a day for the rest of their lives. A balanced diet of protein, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.  Fresh water is essential for all living things. We feed our puppies Eukanuba Dry Food, look for the Maltese / Yorkie specialty brand. Perfect for those beautiful coats.

What about my dogs’ teeth?:

Dogs should have their teeth brushed everyday to avoid plaque buildup.  This is especially important for older dogs.

How often do Maltese need baths and grooming?:

They will need a weekly bath, but do it more often (every 2-3days) if he goes outdoors for playtime. Do not use shampoo designed for humans,  they are acidic or may contain alcohol and will eventually cause damage to your Maltese’s coat. Daily brushing will help prevent matting and free of debree for Long coats; “puppy cut” styled Maltese dogs will need to be groomed approximately every 6-8 weeks.
The hair between the pads of the foot can grow fast and will tend to mat.  Ignored, the mats will increase in size and spread the pads further apart.  You should also clip the toenails every week.

How should I remove matted hair?:

Gently separate mats with your fingertips.  For large impact mats, you may have to spray it with a detangler or conditioning oil until it is saturated.  Pull the mat apart with your fingers then use a comb to loosen the individual hairs.  Never try to remove the entire mat with a comb or brush.  It will hurt your dog and will result in hair loss.

What causes tear staining and how to get rid of it?:

I often get emails inquiring on to get rid of the ugly tear staining that maltese can get on their face and mouth.  Tear staining is seen in white dogs and white cats.  The PH balance in the tears of these white coated animals effects the coats and facial hair of these getting discolored.  We first see tear staining when the puppy starts to grow facial hair that happened to get fluffy and pokes the puppies in the eyes, then following that when they get their baby puppy teeth in, the pressure of the erupting teeth puts pressure on the muzzle and cause them to tear more.  If the puppy is a pet or going to a pet home I will trim the hair from the corner of the eyes which is sometimes called “scooping the eyes” by groomers.  I also sometimes use a thick conditioner to tame down the hairs that are poking the eyes.  Keep the face very clean washing daily and when the hair gets long enough I band the hair with a top knot rubber band and keep the hair out of the eyes.

Tip:

Mix equal volumes of Milk of Magnesia and peroxide(10 volume/3%), then use corn starch to make a good paste.  Apply and work well into the stained area and let day overnight.  Wash out and condition well.  Do this for several days until stain is gone, skipping a day or two between applications if possible.

Maltese

Maltese Breed per AKC Standards*

Toy Group:

The first Maltese exhibited in the United States was white and listed as a Maltese Lion Dog at Westminster's first show in 1877. The American Kennel Club accepted the Maltese for registration in 1888.

Perhaps due to the popularity of the Maltese for centuries as household pets of people of culture, wealth, and fastidious taste, the Maltese has remained a dog of refinement, fidelity, and cleanliness. It should be noted that the Maltese is a spaniel possessing a healthy and spirited temperament, he is among the gentlest mannered of all little dogs, yet he is lively and playful as well as vigorous even though tiny and artistic in appearance.

General Appearance: The Maltese is a toy dog covered from head to foot with a mantle of long, silky, white hair. He is gentle-mannered and affectionate, eager and sprightly in action, and, despite his size, possessed of the vigor needed for the satisfactory companion.

Size: Weight under 7 pounds, with from 4 to 6 pounds preferred. Overall quality is to be favored over size.
